The Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Olatunbosun Haruna Aruwe, has distributed the first quarter 2026 social welfare package to senior citizens, widows, widowers, and other vulnerable residents across Mushin as part of activities marking the forthcoming Salah celebration.
The presentation, held at the Mushin Local Government Secretariat, benefited more than 300 residents drawn from different wards of the council area through various community stakeholders. Beneficiaries received cash stipends, food items, and additional Salah-themed packages designed to ease the burden of the festive season.
Speaking during the event, Aruwe said his administration remains committed to introducing innovative programmes designed to improve the lives of residents and ensure that the dividends of democracy are felt at the grassroots.
According to him, the council deliberately expanded the welfare package to include special Salah support in line with the administration’s commitment to putting smiles on the faces of residents, particularly the elderly and vulnerable.
“If you are familiar with our administration, you will realise that we always come up with different ideas and initiatives to make our people feel the impact of government. That is why we decided to add value to the regular food and cash stipends with a special Salah package,” he said.
The chairman further disclosed that some senior citizens had also benefited from the council’s free Ileya ram initiative to enable them to enjoy a memorable celebration with their families.
Aruwe used the opportunity to advise elderly residents to pay close attention to their health by going for regular medical check-ups and adhering strictly to prescribed medications, stressing that healthy living remains essential regardless of age.
He also urged beneficiaries to safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the voter card as a critical tool in sustaining support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and candidates of the All Progressives Congress.
Also speaking, Mrs Modinat Fashola, Supervisor for Women and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), described the initiative as timely and impactful, noting that the gesture would provide relief and happiness for beneficiaries during the Ileya celebration.
“This gift will go a long way in helping beneficiaries celebrate the season with joy and happiness, which can also positively affect their health and emotional well-being,” she said.
Several beneficiaries who spoke at the event expressed appreciation to the council chairman for sustaining the welfare initiative, offering prayers and goodwill for his continued success in public service.
