The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has announced plans to conduct bye-elections in three electoral wards across the state, including Ward H in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), following the death of newly elected councillors shortly after their inauguration.
According to a notice released and signed by the Commission Chairman, Hon. Justice Bola Okikiola-Ighile (RTD), it was stated that the exercise is being conducted in line with Section 13(3) of the LASIEC Law 2008 (as amended) and Section 28(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.
The commission also announced that bye-elections will be held in Ward C, Orimedu I in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, and Ward F, Bajulaye in Shomolu Local Government, following the deaths of newly elected female councillors in the affected areas.
The bye-election in Ward H, covering the Kayode/Fadeyi area of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, became necessary after the death of Hon. Zainab Shotayo, who represented the ward in the council legislative chamber.
Hon. Shotayo reportedly passed away on Monday, August 18, 2026, after a brief illness, leaving the councillorship seat vacant.
LASIEC has fixed Tuesday, June 23, 2026, for the conduct of the elections across all polling units within the three affected wards.
In Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Ward H (C3) comprises 50 polling units within the Kayode/Fadeyi axis. Registered political parties are expected to obtain nomination forms for their candidates at the LASIEC headquarters as preparations for the electoral process commence.
The commission urged stakeholders and residents in the affected wards to participate peacefully and comply with electoral guidelines during the exercise.
